Private Dining
The Red Room is perfect for:
  • private dining
  • meetings
  • celebrations
  • events
  • intimate weddings
For several centuries the alley to the side of The Golden Cross was known as Steelyard or Stiliard Shut. A steelyard was a commercial balance for weighing all manner of merchandise. Our sumptuously medieval private dining room on the first floor - variously known as The Red Room or The Stiliard Lounge - is one of the oldest parts of the hotel and overlooks the length of Golden Cross Passage.

The former sanctuary of secretive Royalist conspirators before the siege of Shrewsbury and reputedly the haunt of Harry Hotspur's thirsty ghost, the Stiliard Lounge lends any small function or event all the atmospherics it needs to bring the occasion to life...

Elegant, glamorous and intimate, the room can accommodate groups up to 25 and is just simply the best venue for a small private occasion. Whatever your ideas for your event, we're more than happy to accommodate them and create something special just for you. Just get in touch and we'll talk about how to make your private party utterly memorable.

  • Please note that for parties in our private dining room we are unable to offer individual drinks tabs.
  • The bill for all drinks ordered is the sole responsibility of the person who made the reservation.
